LANDSCAPE VALUES: Ramie is most known for providing textile fiber of excellent strength and quality from the inner bark of the stems. It was used to make mummy cloths in Egypt during the period of 5000-3000 BC. It is chiefly used for fabric production and is stronger than silk and cotton. The leaves and roots are edible, and this plant has many medicinal benefits as well. In addition to all this usefulness, it is also grown as an ornamental plant. The coarse, beautifully textured leaves have white undersides and cream-colored tassel like flowers adorn the plant in the summer.
