The Texas Red Oak is a medium to small oak that is native to the southern plain states. It is related to the Shumard Oak, but has a better drought and heat tolerance, and it can grow in alkaline soils. Leaves are a glossy medium green and turn bright red in the fall. The acorns are an excellent source of food for wildlife and the tree is a great habitat for birds. Native to the Southern Plains States of Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.
