LANDSCAPE VALUES: Hollyhocks have been grown in gardens for centuries, their tall spikes of satiny, crepe-textured flowers make a fine display in mid-summer. ‘Summer Carnival’ is a hardy old fashioned cottage garden favorite, with a wonderful mix of fully double peony shaped flowers in crimson, pink, yellow, white and rose. While considered a biennial or short-lived perennial, ‘Summer Carnival’ tends to reliably come back each year. If rust is an issue in our humid climate, treat with a copper based fungicide.
