Thelma Mercer Collection - SALE PREVIEW ONLY
Avid horticulturalists Thelma and Charles Mercer purchased a 14.5 acre tract along Cypress Creek in the late 1940’s to grow trees, plants, flowers, and to introduce new plant species to Harris County. In 1974, they sold the tract to Harris County with the condition that it become a horticultural and educational facility for the public. This was the beginning of what is now Mercer Botanic Gardens.
The Friends of Mercer Botanic Gardens are happy to have a collection of the original plants Thelma grew here available for sale to celebrate Mercer Botanic Gardens' 50th Anniversary. Many of Thelma’s plants can still be found in the gardens, while others have disappeared over the years as they aged or were taken out by floods.
