The Ficus elastica ‘Ruby’ is an attractive, rose-tinted variety of the Ficus elastica. Just like the more common Ruby has glossy ovate leaves and a vertical growth habit with leaves are marked in red, dark pink, and cream. The vividness of the red varies between plants. The best way to keep your ruby Ficus looking its finest is by getting the lighting conditions right. While the ordinary Ficus elastica appreciates shaded spaces, you need to give ‘Ruby’ much more sun. Keep ‘Ruby’ outdoors in bright indirect light when temperatures are above 60^o and bring in when the temperatures drop. Ficus Ruby is considered toxic to humans, cats, and dogs. The sap that the Ficus secretes is irritating to the skin and can cause contact dermatitis. Wear gloves and wash hands after handling this plant.

Ponytail palms are exotic plants from the Asparagaceae family. The ponytail plant features a thick woody, palm-like stem. It can produce long ponytail palm leaves and is a seasonal bloomer, however it must be mature (10 years) to bloom. Its flowery blooms have a rather delicate appearance. The flowers are cream in color. They make great indoor plants and will enjoy being put outdoors in bright to full sun. Size will be relative to the pot. Water by-weekly in the growing season and monthly in the winter. Fertilize during the growing season only.

Ficus umbellata is a somewhat unknown species of ficus that has started to gain popularity as a houseplant over the past couple of years. Like its relative the fiddle leaf fig, ficus umbellata grows large, waxy leaves on a thin trunk. Its leaves are heart-shaped and slightly thinner than a fiddle leaf fig’s leaves, with long, delicate petioles. The resulting look is delicate and somewhat ethereal—a fantastic addition to any houseplant collection. It enjoys a bright spot, regular watering, and warm temperatures and is not picky about fertilization or pruning. Like all plants in the ficus genus, it is considered toxic to pets and humans if consumed.

The Matchstick Plant produces dense spikes of purple tipped, pink "matchsticks" beginning in mid-winter on sturdy upright to arching spikes that emerge from the center of the medium green glossy rosettes of nearly spineless foliage. This easily enjoyed bromeliad readily produces pups or offsets and is typically grown in soil but can also be grown as a semi-epiphyte on a board as well.
