Description
LIGHT: Sun / part shade HARDINESS: Root hardy SOIL: Well drained HEIGHT: 4 ft LANDSCAPE VALUES: Enjoy & grow your own Turmeric spice! The yellow-orange spice is made from the rhizome of this plant. Rhizomes can be sliced or powdered and added to savory dishes or tea. Also called Hidden Ginger, it blooms in July & August with white flower stalks or inflorescences. The top bracts are blushed in soft pink and grows pale green near the base. Individual yellow flowers emerge from each bract. Excellent cut flowers. Leaves are richly green & deeply ribbed. Very easy to grow in a garden bed or in a container. Falls dormant in cold weather but returns effortlessly in late spring.
